We ran our AgentReady audit over 9 major direct-to-consumer e-commerce homepages on 2026-07-21. Shopping agents are the first place the agent economy touches real transactions, so this is the vertical where machine-readability turns directly into revenue.
77/100 average score. Median 80. Almost identical to last month's SaaS benchmark, but the failure pattern is completely different.
The interesting reversal: robots.txt and sitemap.xml are universal here (100% each, DTC brands clearly run competent basic SEO), but the AI-agent-specific layer, llms.txt, agents.md, and especially product-level structured data, lags well behind the SEO fundamentals. These brands optimized for Google. Almost none of them have optimized for an agent that shops on a customer's behalf.

3 brands returned no auditable result to our fetcher (away.com, mvmtwatches.com: fetch failed; warbyparker.com: HTTP 403) — bot-protection blocking non-browser requests, itself an AI-visibility risk in the same way it would be for any shopping agent trying to read the site.

Same rubric as every score this studio publishes: one server-side fetch of each public homepage, a clearly identifying User-Agent, 9 weighted machine-readability checks, public data only, no personal data, one request per site. Homepage-only snapshot, not a full-site audit, dated 2026-07-21. Full weights and rationale for each check: the published methodology. See how these brands compare to major SaaS homepages: The State of AI Visibility 2026, to dental and healthcare brands: the Dental & Healthcare edition, to financial services firms: the Financial Services edition, or to real-estate brokerages: the Real Estate edition. Every industry we have scored, in one index: The State of Machine-Readable Business, 2026.
