How this time card calculator works

Enter your clock-in and clock-out times for each day and any unpaid break in minutes. ShiftSum totals your hours, applies the overtime rule you choose, and shows gross pay from your hourly rate. Everything runs on your device — no uploads, no account, no tracking.

Calculating hours with a lunch break

Hours worked = (time out − time in) − unpaid break. Example: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch is 8 hours. Overnight shifts are handled automatically — if time out is earlier than time in, ShiftSum assumes the shift crossed midnight.

Common questions

Is 30 minutes of lunch always unpaid? Unpaid breaks are whatever your employer doesn't pay for — enter only unpaid time in the break column.

Does this store my data? Only in your own browser (local storage), so your week is still there when you come back. Clear it any time.

Is this legal or payroll advice? No — it's a calculator. Overtime law has exceptions and exemptions; confirm specifics with your employer or state labor department.
